Summary of Benefits
Who is eligible: Business Legal Plan services are available for your covered business.
This benefit provides access to a network of professional attorneys who will conduct phone or face to face consultations and review or create documents on the Business Member’s behalf.
Free Legal Services
Depending on the Business Member’s needs, Attorneys will be prepared to:
- Provide unlimited initial phone consultations during business hours for new legal matters.
- Review as many as five (5) independent documents for the Business Member each quarter. These include business documents, contracts, signed or unsigned, up to ten (10) pages each.
- Conduct initial telephone calls made on behalf of the Business Member, up to two (2) per month.
- Write initial letters for new legal subjects on behalf of the Business Member, up to three (3) per month.
- Write initial collection letters, up to ten (10) per quarter.
- Provide face-to-face consultations for each new legal matter, with thirty (30) minute time limit.
The Attorney will serve in a Registered Agent capacity for the Business Member in the state in which the Business Member is incorporated as well as other states where the Business Member operates.
Guaranteed Low Hourly Rates
Attorneys in the Business Legal Plan network have contracted to charge 40% off of their normal hourly rate, with a minimum of $125 per hour, for legal care beyond the Free Legal Services. Guaranteed Low Hourly Rates apply but are not limited to the following:
- Review of additional independent documents beyond the quarterly limit.
- Follow up calls made on behalf of the Business Member beyond the monthly limit.
- Collection letters and any follow-up letters beyond the quarterly limit.
- Face-to-face consultations for each new legal matter beyond the thirty (30) minute time limit.
Contingency Fee Discounts
Attorneys in the Business Legal Plan network often work on a contingency fee basis on such cases as personal injury and collections. This fee is usually expressed as a percentage of the amount collected or awarded. In collection matters, the Attorney will accept 18% of the amount collected or awarded, if the case is settled before formal court proceedings begin. After proceedings begin, the fee is 27% of the amount collected or awarded. On all other contingency matters, there is a 10% discount on the lower of either the state maximum or the Attorney’s standard rate.
Retainer
In the case of extended legal care, Attorneys in the Business Legal Plan network may ask the Business Member for a retainer. Any retainer sought will be computed by multiplying the number of hours the Attorney believes a case will take, by the appropriate discounted hourly plan rate. For instance; 10 hours x $125.00 = a retainer of $1,250.00. Any unused portion of the retainer will be returned to the Business Member.
